Presented as an interdisciplinary manuscript (WVU Press 2027) and documentary film (The Unseen Thing 2026), this is a collaboration with historian,Troy Rondinone.

Part forest legend, part UFO myth, the modern-day Mothman has become a pop-culture icon and symbol for subversion in rural Appalachia. This project is focused on the origins of the legend, leading up to the first sightings and the continuing cultural impact in West Virginia and beyond.
